Blood Of Zeus Review: 9 Ups And 2 Downs
4. Up: The Animation
Even with some flaws, the animation in this series does little to disappoint, with Powerhouse Animation becoming the new, well, powerhouse in action-oriented adult 2D animation in the Western World. Openly inspired by mature, action-packed anime out of Japan, Blood of Zeus makes a fantastic showing of epic, dark vision, adding to Netflix's growing roster of intriguing Western "anime" titles.
Nothing sells the godliness of this show's characters better than their battles, made as earth-shattering as many of the anime that clearly inspired them. The way the gods move and their styles of fighting match their mythology on some level, with a few liberties taken for in service of looking cool in combat.
Though they never quite reach the heights of acrobatic action seen in Castlevania, the fights between the human characters (or in this case, any character that isn't a god) in Blood of Zeus can feel raw and exciting, showing off the characters's personalities in the way they approach battle.
Some standout fights are those where antagonist Seraphim uses his deadly bident and enhanced strength and speed, as well as when characters like the Amazonian Alexia, and the gods Apollo and Ares show off their skill as warriors.
