Bad Tina is a brilliant case study of how easy it is for a naive teenager to fall into the wrong crowd and suffer the consequences as a result.

Tammy Larsen is the new girl at Wagstaff – she’s confident, sharp-tongued and very blunt about her opinions. Tina is the one to tour her around school and the two develop a friendship, but it’s not really a true bond because the two girls are only using each other to get closer to Jimmy Jr and Zeke.

The brilliance of this episode lies in how well Tina is characterised against mean girl Tammy. She does things that are completely out of her nature, such as having secret parties and skipping class, but you can see the reluctance and anxiety in her as she does it, all because of Tammy’s bad influence.

Eventually, Tina confides in her mother and confesses everything, but it’s not completely over yet as Linda gives her the horrible advice of reading her erotic friend fiction out to the whole school. The “Buttloose” sequence is hilarious, but also ends in embarrassment for Tina. Thankfully, she has the last laugh as the bullyish Tammy laugh-farts in front of everyone and the humiliation is turned on her.
