BoJack Horseman: 10 Greatest Diane Episodes

5. The Face Of Depression (S6E7)

This episode may have been named for Mr. Peanutbutter’s new status in the world, but it was Diane that was facing an actual battle with depression. She was in denial, and didn’t want to take the anti-depressants prescribed to her by her therapist because of bad experiences in the past, in which she felt she became boring and gained weight.

The real fear however, came to light in a conversation between Diane and BoJack, and it was essentially the same reason BoJack never wanted therapy. What if you do the thing that is supposed to make you better, but you are still just as broken as before? It's a tough question to answer.

However, she was reminded by her friend that she was the who encouraged him to get the help he needed, and in doing so maybe opened her eyes to what she needed. When Guy returned from the Galapagos, he was greeted by Diane. She had gained weight, but she had a big smile on her face, and neither one of them could have been happier in that moment.

Animated shows rarely permanently change the appearance of their characters, but in gaining this weight as a sacrifice to look after her own mental health, this was one of the best things that ever happened to Diane.
