BoJack Horseman Season 4: 12 Biggest WTF Moments
8. Skiing Competition
BoJack Horseman provides a very valid commentary on last year's presidential election in the United States. Yes, it's absurd, but the election was also quite unconventional. Unable to get enough signatures to even run for governor, Mr. Peanutbutter challenges the current governor, Woodchuck Coodchuck-Berkowitz, to a skiing competition.
Instead of dismissing the challenge, journalists ask the governor why is he so hesitant to accept the challenge. A race like that would be clearly undemocratic, yet the popular opinion is that rejecting such a proposal would be even more undemocratic - Mr. Peanutbutter has a constitutional right to challenge anyone to a skiing race, even if he doesn't know how to ski himself.
The challenge and the response to it present that right now to make it in politics a recognizable face is more important than actual policy. Why bother with it, if one can exhibit his skiing skills - or lack thereof, as is the case with Mr. Peanutbutter - and the crowd can have something really entertaining to watch. Looking at polls and election results isn't as fun as watching athletic performances.
