BoJack Horseman Season 4 Review: 5 Ups & 1 Down
3. Interesting Background Characters
While the primary and secondary characters on the show are interesting in their own right, the background ones, that appear in one, maybe two episodes, actually keep BoJack Horseman on track. Interactions with them create or solve problems, pushing the narrative forward, but they're also good for a few laughs. More often than not they're rather developed, which makes them more than just faces of singular tasks - to use video game vernacular - which the characters must pass in order to move on to the next adventure.
Case in point Eddie, a fly, who hasn't flown since his wife passed. He might seem angry and grumpy, but he actually has a really good heart and is a rather tormented character. Or Professor Thistlethorpe, the unconventional skiing instructor, who thinks skiing is the last thing one must do when trying to master the sport. And these are just from the first episode.
