6. Give Diane Happiness
Giving a central character unbridled happiness doesn’t exactly seem like the show’s style. As previously mentioned, Princess Carolyn’s new baby is sure to bring a lot of challenges, while Todd’s empowering coming out as asexual was followed by a drawn out and ultimately failed relationship with Yolanda the axolotl.
However, with Diane they have the opportunity to make the happiness feel extremely dark. BoJack draws parallels between himself and Diane in the fifth season, with Diane taking offence. He feels they very similar, while Diane sees them as poles apart. Having been through her own share of tribulations, if Diane was able to achieve the happiness that has eluded BoJack it would show a distinct difference between the pair.
The problem comes with where Diane might find this happiness. For all his flaws, Mr Peanutbutter cherished her, but still made her miserable. Writing for Girl Croosh wasn’t as fulfilling as it promised, and she definitely is too good to be writing Instagram captions for celebrities.
Could her success writing for Philbert see her given another show? Or maybe even getting back to her roots with a novel?
