7. The RV Gets Crushed - Los Zafiros, 'He Venido'
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m6VmOFx_giA Eventually, the RV has to be destroyed. Only to be expected: it has both Walt's and Jesse's prints all over it, and it still contains cooking equipment. It was only ever going to be a stepping stone for the brilliant Heisenberg. The use of 'He Venido' in the scene - a track by Cuban harmony group Los Zafiros - is an inspired choice: it's a love song with a chromatic bass line; it's poignant and sweet, and almost belongs on a break-up mixtape. The Spanish lyrics tell of a man proclaiming his love for a woman, still after all this time, but frankly it doesn't matter whether you understand the song or not; the look as Walt and Jesse watch their first lab heartlessly destroyed is one of two men watching a chapter end. The RV was a loyal companion to them: clapped out and useless at times, hugely unreliable, and a companion that neither of them would have chosen if they had to. But all the same, this song makes the scene a touching goodbye to the Jesse's "own private domicile... b****!".
