7. The Americans
Set in the 1980s, the Americans looks at a normal American family, or so it seems from the outside. In reality, travel agents Elizabeth and Philip Jennings are KGB agents and gathering secret intelligence for the Motherland. But when Stan Beeman who works for FBI counter intelligence moves in across the street they might be pushing things to far. With the Jennings' secret life of midnight missions and endless disguises there is constant edge in this TV drama, and Kerri Russel and Matthew Rhys who star as the undercover agents continue to perform excellently in a show that keeps on giving. With the show all leading up to the nail biting finale and the series is summed up with a great final sequence that sets up season 2 brilliantly. It is the show that makes you question your neighbours coming and goings, what do they really do? How well do you know your neighbour? It's a common concern, expertly played upon here.
