The breakout star of the show, Saul Goodman first appeared as something of a comic relief character in Season 2. Surprisingly, despite his tacky ads and sleazy charm, he turned out to be really, really good at his job. There's no doubt that Walt's drug empire would never have came to fruition without Saul, nor would he have evaded his many foes for so long. Bob Odenkirk's incredible performance was rewarded with a spin-off show, 'Better Caul Saul', the entire first season of which is currently available of Netflix. It, like Breaking Bad, has received considerable critical acclaim, but stands very much on its own two feet. The idea of Saul may have started as a glorified plot device, capable of tying the series' loose ends together and plunging Walt further into the murky criminal underworld, but he quickly grew into a fascinating character in his own right, and one of the most beloved cult heroes of the show.
