In a series of changing characters, Gomez was a refreshing source of stability. Hank's long-term DEA partner remained loyal and competent throughout, a level-headed companion to the often volatile Schrader. He met his fate in the iconic 'Ozymandias' episode of Season 5, dying in a shootout with Jack Welker's neo-Nazi gang. Much is made of the fact that Jesse Pinkman was never supposed to survive Season 1, only for Aaron Paul's fantastic performance to convince the writers otherwise. Less known is the fact taht Steven Michael Quezada was also meant to be written out at an early stage, but the 2007/07 writers' strike saw Season 1 cut short and the character of Gomie survive. Of all the weird and wonderful Breaking Bad characters out there, Gomie was perhaps the most normal. Without meaning to suggest he was boring, his normality perhaps actually contributed towards his cult hero status. He was the voice of casual reason in an otherwise outlandish world, and grounded the show nicely at times. It's the sort of role that would often go unnoticed, but not by a fanbase as rabid as Breaking Bad's.
