Breaking Bad & Better Call Saul: 10 Characters Killed At The Perfect Time
3. Breaking Bad - Hank Schrader
"You're the smartest guy I ever met, but you're too stupid to see... he made up his mind ten minutes ago."
The brash, loudmouthed Hank Schrader often came off as ultra-obnoxious in Breaking Bad's early goings - a meathead wearing a DEA vest and gun. However, fans soon realized that Hank was an inherently good man at heart, one who fought for what was right in sharp contrast to Walter's complete abandonment of his own morality.
The saddest thing about Hank's character arc is the fact that he genuinely cared for his brother in law. He is legitimately shocked and appalled when he realizes that he has been duped, with his realization in the mid-season finale of the fifth season and his subsequent confrontation of Walter standing as some of the greatest scenes in the history of the iconic show.
Sadly however, there was no coming back from tracking Walter to the desert for Hank - finding Heisenberg's hidden stash of cash meant that it was either him or the show’s central character. Jack's crew arrive and kill Hank's partner Steve Gomez before duly dispatching the wounded DEA agent. Hank goes out in a manner emblematic of his no-bullsh*t approach to life, refusing to give his killers the pleasure of watching him beg.
Breaking Bad needed such a character of Hank's calibre right up until the final goings, meaning that his death two episodes before the finale is exquisitely timed.
