"When you're sitting in your sh*tty nursing home, and you're sucking down on your jello night after night for the rest of your life, you think of me, you twisted f*ck."

Better Call Saul expertly counterbalanced the emotional toll of Nacho Varga's inevitable fate by giving one of the show's fan favorites an immortal sign-off of epic proportions.

The failure of Gustavo Fring's assassination attempt on Lalo Salamanca sealed Nacho's doom. As the only person who could have possibly let the assassins into Lalo's compound, there was simply no escaping the fact that he was marked for death - be it at the hands of Fring or the vengeful Salamancas. While the demise of a central character so early in the final season came as a shock to many fans, as with Lalo, many had mournfully surmised Nacho's fate based on the fact he does not appear in Breaking Bad. Accordingly, the timing of his death felt poignantly suitable.

Faced with certain death, this hauntingly complex character has nothing left to lose. Ignacio blisteringly excoriates Fring and the Salamancas, before gleefully revealing his responsibility for Hector's paralysis. Unable to act on his own terms for as long as he can remember, he ultimately chooses autonomy in his last moments as a final "f*ck you" to his principal tormenter.
