Breaking Bad & Better Call Saul: Every Character Ranked Worst To Best

2. Jesse Pinkman

Breaking Bad Saul Goodman Bob Odenkirk
AMC

Even when sized up against the likes of his former teacher, occasional enemy and sometime partner Walter White, Jesse Pinkman might just be the most complex character in Breaking Bad.

Featuring yet another powerhouse performance, this time from Aaron Paul, Jesse is portrayed as a slacker burnout with a knack for cooking meth and making enough money to get by and feed his on-and-off drug addiction. He's also easy to manipulate and naive, something Walt quickly takes advantage of.

Because he's always by Walt's side, being beaten down and betrayed, it's easy to feel sorry for Jesse even in his worst moments and consider him to be Walt's biggest mistake. By the end of the show, he's been tortured beyond recognition both emotionally and physically, a walking reminder of Heisenberg's deadly touch.

If that wasn't enough, though, Jesse also finds room in all his tragedy and heartache to be the show's leading comic relief, adding a thin layer of dark humour to the show's otherwise gritty tone. Yeah bitch, indeed.
