Breaking Bad: Every Major Death Ranked

5. Gus' Dealers

Hector Salamanca Breaking Bad
AMC

There are many extraordinary, breathtaking moments across five years of Breaking Bad, but for sheer heart-racing exhilaration, it doesn’t get much better than Walter taking out two of employer Gus Fring’s street dealers with his car in order to save Jesse’s life.

The characters aren’t so much as named, but all the same we’re as eager to see Walt deal with them as we’ve been with any major antagonist. These guys were bad news; their crew killed Jesse’s pal Combo, and they employed - and, when they became useless, murdered - children as part of their ruthless street game.

We expect a standoff between them and a vengeful Jesse. And then: Walter comes screeching into the scene in his Pontiac Aztek, ploughing through the pair of dealers. One dies on impact; the other, after a moment’s hesitation, he shoots in the head before telling Jesse to run.

It’s an explosive scene with major consequences for all involved. And while it’s a level of violence heretofore unseen in Walter, it’s also one of his most heroic moments. Here, he shows that he genuinely cares about Jesse, even if he has a funny way of proving it.
