Breaking Bad: How Walter White Broke Bad In 10 Steps

6. The Death of Jane

The people that Walt killed up until this point didn€™t mean a lot to anyone in his life, they were drug dealers and hardened criminals. The death of Jane is different, she meant a lot to Jesse, Walt€™s business partner and surrogate son which makes Walt€™s actions all the more selfish and shocking. Even though Walt doesn€™t kill Jane he does facilitate her death by not rolling her onto her side when she starts to throw up, leaving her to choke on her own vomit. Like with the death of Crazy 8 it is clear that Walt€™s soul is damaged by this act, he feels great remorse for her death (as revealed cryptically in the season three episode €˜Fly€™) even if he might have been able to rationalise for it at the time. The most evil thing about this act though is how he lets Jesse take the blame, he lets Jesse handle the guilt which tortures him and leads him further into his own personal darkness.
