Brexit: The Uncivil War Review - 4 Ups & 4 Downs

3. It Stops Short Of Lobbying

It would have been very easy for The Uncivil War to use its prime slot on Channel 4 and HBO as a sort of plinth to tear down the leave vote or to show how stupid the Remain campaign were in their failings. But, thankfully, for the most part, the film does stop short of lobbying for either of those messages.

Yes, there are moments that feel VERY much like propaganda, but in focusing more tightly on Dominic Cummings' story, that's mostly negated. There is no celebration in the victory nor too much lamentation either (though the sequences showing Boris immediately after Leave was announced as the winner and Cummings effectively redundant at the end do seem to have that sort of agenda to them).

There is no way this could have remained entirely impartial, but with so much opportunity to go either way and make a vehicle for either side to campaign through the mainstream media (and not the press), it's impressive that it was so restrained to that end.
