Brexit: The Uncivil War Review - 4 Ups & 4 Downs

1. Benedict Cumberbatch's Performance

As already qualified, this film's biggest selling point is Benedict Cumberbatch's phenomenal performance as Dominic Cummings. He is almost unrecognisable as the Durham-born strategist thanks to a "make-under" to change his hairline and the commitment he's put in to capture as much of Cummings' nuances as possible.

Cumberbatch has spoken about the challenges he faced in the performance and revealed how hard he studied Cummings - from his physical tics when talking to very specific vocal characteristics - to get there. The reward for that hard work is very clear in the performance.

Special mention has to go to his accent, which is a softer North East accent, flecked with Geordie but with the refined edge of someone who left the region (as Cummings did to attend Oxford). It's so minutely well observed that it deserves awards on its own.
