Britain vs America: Who's Got The Best Television?

SUPERNATURAL

Supernatural Vs. Being Human A5 I was obsessed with Supernatural when I discovered it, devouring five seasons in quick succession with gusto. The premise is engaging, and I was always interested to discover the mythos behind the creature in each episode. The characters are fantastic too, especially brothers Sam and Dean, whose obvious devotion to each other elevates the show beyond your run of the mill creature fest. The supporting characters are engaging and memorable; Castiel, lovable and noble, Bobby, hilarious and reliable, Ruby, rebellious and mysterious. Hell, I even liked Bella. Being Human has a smaller cast of characters, but they are no less memorable, with Mitchell, George and Annie all having distinct yet likable personalities. However, the show is a bit more daring in that it shows the perspective from the other side, of the so-called "bad guys." Supernatural, most of the time, is a straight up "kill the monster" affair, but Being Human goes much deeper than that, showing the trials and tribulations these "monsters" go through in order to cling desperately to their humanity. Kind of makes Sam and Dean look like dicks. On the technical side, both shows have superb visual effects. I remember being absolutely terrified and certifiably creeped out when the shifter Dean shed its skin early on in the first season of Supernatural, a similar feeling I had when I saw George transform into a werewolf for the first time. The effects aren't too over the top in either, making them more believable. Like Doctor Who, however, the premise of Supernatural is a flexible one, which can mean the show can go from over the top goofy with the boys fighting Paris Hilton, to melancholy as Sam goes to the dark side (again) in a flash. So, seeing as I gave the point to Doctor Who for a similar reason, I guess Supernatural wins out, right? Em. Not quite. I'm afraid I find the situation of the three lovable monsters so interesting, so tragic, so desperate and yet so relatable that I can't help but give the point to Being Human. Anyone can identify with being different and wanting to fit in, and that's why the show works so well, making the main characters and their situations so familiar to audiences. It just so happens Mitchell and crew are...quite a bit more different than most. Point to Britain. Hoorah!

Time Lord, Man of the Night's Watch, Crew of the good ship Serenity, Consulting Detective, Wasteland Wanderer and Survivor of the Zombie Apocalypse. I am none of these things.
