Britain vs America: Who's Got The Best Television?

Scrubs Vs. The IT Crowd A6 Both of these shows are heralded for being wildly different than anything else on the box, and I must confess that they are exactly that, which is precisely why I love them both. Scrubs has that wacky sense of humour, the self-narrative, the out-of-nowhere side gags, and that endearing bromance between lead Zach Braff and Donald Faison. The IT Crowd, however, has an even wackier sense of humour, some lovably strange misfit characters, and is absolutely hilarious to boot. They are different in many ways, and it's difficult to say which is better as a result, but that's what we're here for, so I'll do my best. I must admit that The IT Crowd is a bit more daring than Scrubs, including some edgier, darker jokes or ones that may not work. It's true that, especially in later seasons, some jokes did begin to fall flat, but hell, I can respect them for taking the chance. Scrubs is just a bit safer, although this doesn't make the jokes any less funny. The premise of the IT Crowd is a unique one, too, of three IT workers toiling in the basement of a large company and getting no recognition for their work. You'd never expect some hilarious storylines such as everyone thinking Jen is dead or Moss going on Dragon's Den to come out of that, but they do, due the creativity of the show's writer, Graham Linehan. While the "medical drama" concept has been done to death, Scrubs takes the concept to humorous new levels, while still retaining all the drama and heartache you'd expect. This is a major difference between the two shows; Scrubs has the ability to give your heart a round-house kick and develop real emotional attachments to the main characters, which the IT Crowd has never really done, although I don't think it ever really sets out to. Still though, the fact that characters like JD and Dr Cox can really be delved into and explored on a really deep level serves to elevate Scrubs onto a higher plane, so I'm afraid I'm going to have to give the point to America.

Time Lord, Man of the Night's Watch, Crew of the good ship Serenity, Consulting Detective, Wasteland Wanderer and Survivor of the Zombie Apocalypse. I am none of these things. What I am is a peppy young teenage fellow preparing to study Creative Writing and Film at University, and until then basking in the glory of all things geeky and using the powers of an eloquent vocabulary to fight for justice. Well, as long as there's yoghurt in the fridge. Come check out my youtube if that be interestin' to ya. http://www.youtube.com/user/thatangrywizard
