Brooklyn Nine-Nine: 10 Things You Completely Missed From Season One

9. Andy Samberg Breaks Character In The Fifth Episode

Brooklyn 99's cold opens never get old. Even though these sequences rarely have anything to do with the overarching plot, they are usually the funniest part of the episode.

One moment that deserves a second look is the beginning of the fifth episode. While Peralta and the gang talk about the oldest criminal they put away, Boyle enters the room, only hearing the end of the conversation. Under the impression his friends are talking about the oldest person they slept with, Boyle proudly declares he bedded a 68-year-old. When Peralta points out this woman is old enough to be a grandma, Boyle says, "She was, actually. That's how I met her."

Upon this revelation, the gang all groan in disgust except Peralta who keels over, unable to stop himself from laughing. However, the actor, Andy Samberg, wasn't acting at all. His co-star's line caught him off-guard, causing him to break character.

In hindsight, it's obvious Samberg isn't in character since we never hear Peralta giggle like this again. Everyone thought Samberg's hyena-like cackle was hilarious so it was decided to leave the take in.
