Brooklyn Nine-Nine: Every Main Character RANKED
1. Raymond Holt
The arrival of Raymond Holt as the precinct’s new captain was the catalyst that gave this sitcom life.
The deadpan Holt served as a great foil to Jake Peralta’s colourful shenanigans and offered up a plethora of hilarious moments, particularly in the early seasons, as the two opposing personalities regularly butted heads.
As with Rosa, Holt’s sexuality is addressed but is not his defining quality. Being a gay, black man in the police force lead to unfair prejudices that held him back for many years, but Holt never let that stop him from offering years of outstanding service to the force.
Holt is a character that instantly commands respect and the whole squad constantly work to gain his approval, but he is far more complex than his initial robotic demeanour suggests.
Captain Holt is one of the most unique and hilarious sitcom characters to grace our screens in many years. His long-standing, petty feud with Deputy Wuntch has been a running gag throughout the show and created some of the most quotable one-liners from the entire series.
Even amongst a cast of memorable characters, Andre Braugher still manages to stand out as the incomparable Captain Holt…or should I say ‘Velvet Thunder’!
