Buffy The Vampire Slayer: 10 Funniest Episodes

10. Pangs (Season 4, Episode 8)

Before we get into it, it is worth pointing out that certain aspects of this episode certainly don't look good in hindsight. The manner in which the episode addresses and depicts the culture of the Chumash tribe is questionable at best, but if one can look past its controversial content, there's a wealth of brilliant comedic beats in store.

The episode sees a very stressed-out Buffy attempting to have a perfect Thanksgiving dinner with her friends, but in typical Sunnydale fashion, the fates are against her at every hurdle. Be it via a lack of oven space, the fact that Spike has to attend or that the vengeful spirit of a Chumash warrior is attempting to kill everyone in attendance.

You know, the standard Thanksgiving stuff.

Much of the episode's humour derives from the inherent frustrations of the Slayer trying to organise a civilised dinner that eventually erupts into abject chaos with numerous Chumash warriors - as well as a fully grown brown bear - besieging Giles' home.

It's certainly one of the silliest episodes, and one that will forever be tainted by its wrongful use of stereotypes, but in spite of the inherent flaws, Pangs is a consistently funny ride from start to finish.
