Buffy The Vampire Slayer: 10 Funniest Episodes

9. A New Man (Season 4, Episode 16)

Buffy the Vampire Slayer Gingerbread
Mutant Enemy

One of the true blessings that came with season four of Buffy was the odd-couple pairing of Spike and Giles. Their constant barbs at one another made for some of the show's most memorable and quotable scenes, but due to the series' ever-changing nature, this dynamic was sadly missing from later seasons.

Thankfully though, we have 'A New Man' waiting in the wings for whenever we're in need of our bickering British folk fix, as it puts the two of them together under the most peculiar of circumstances.

After a night of heavy drinking with Ethan Rayne, Giles wakes up with the most monstrous of hangovers - as in, he has literally been turned into a monster. Unable to seek help from the likes of Buffy and Willow, he begrudgingly enlists the help of Spike, who naturally demands he be paid for such services.

Despite the dubious nature of their partnership, both Spike and Giles get a lot of great comedic moments to work with in this episode, and their mutual delight in scaring Maggie Walsh is one of the most precious moments between the pair. 'A New Man' will forever remain an underrated gem in the show's extensive back catalogue.
