Buffy The Vampire Slayer: 10 Most Underused Characters

9. Mr Platt

Sunday Buffy
Mutant Enemy

Mr Platt was a great little character, who diehard Buffy fans will hopefully all agree could have had a much bigger role than the one he was actually given. He turns up in season three's "Beauty and the Beasts" as Sunnydale High's guidance counselor. Buffy is sent to him, despite her apprehension, and finds he's actually a really nice, genuine guy, and the two form a connection.

Mr Platt's honesty and wisdom was a great change of pace in a show made up of mostly annoying adults (especially in the school), and having him hit it off with Buffy just as she felt at her most trapped and emotionally vulnerable was great to see.

Unfortunately, though, Platt was killed off after only one scene by the monster of the week, and then never mentioned again, and all his death did was make Buffy feel even worse about her life and its complexities.

Platt would have made for a decent recurring character who helped Buffy through other key moments in the season, like Faith's decent to villainy or the Watchers Council evil training rituals, but alas he was killed before he reached his full potential.

I get to write about what I love, so that's pretty cool. Every great film should seem new every time you see it. Be excellent to each other.
