Professor Walsh was a relatively effective character, the leader of the Initiative, manipulative mentor to Riley Finn and eventual enemy of Buffy, who Walsh saw as an interference to her work.

Due to Joss Whedon's assessment that actress Lindsay Crouse was difficult to work with, he had Prof Walsh killed halfway through Season Four by her own Frankenstein-like monster, Adam. As with the Watchers Council, this was a shocking reveal, but in hindsight was a poor development, making way for the much less effective Adam as the season's big bad.

Walsh had just hit her stride as a villain and didn't get the chance to really show fans what she was made of.
