Buffy The Vampire Slayer: Ranking The Songs In Once More With Feeling
12. Dawn's Ballet/What You Feel
Because of Trachtenberg's aversion to singing on camera, Joss Whedon compromised by giving her more dancing to do. This number sees her dancing gracefully with the demon Sweet's disturbing toy-like henchmen. The dance itself is well choreographed and well performed, especially by Trachtenberg, who balances Dawn's desperate need to escape and her uncontrollable urge to dance with her captors.
She must then listen to Sweet show off his own theatrical voice, with a song which instantly makes him a likeable if sadistic monster of the week. Sweet is smooth and his voice is fun and expressive, and we can't help but feel entertained by the demon who is killing people.
The song is eventually let down, however, once Dawn briefly lends her voice to it. Her voice isn't up to par with Hinton Battle's, and when she joins in the momentum of the number is stifled. If the ballet had gone on for longer, it would constitute a higher ranking, but unfortunately it is too short lived to be any higher.
