Casting The Star Trek: Enterprise Reboot

1. Captain Jonathan Archer - Justin Hartley

Archer Justin Hartley
ABC/CBS

Archer captains the first warp five vessel out into deep space, leading a relatively inexperienced crew behind him. Scott Bakula was both the friendly lead that everyone needed when Enterprise premiered and was still able to go to darker places by the time of the Xindi War. In this fantasy reboot, Justin Hartley would be an excellent choice for the top spot on the list.

Hartley has plenty of experience in science-fiction after playing both Aquaman, in a failed pilot, and Oliver Queen, with the latter role being in Smallville. He has also received an Emmy nomination for some of his work on The Young and the Restless, while of course his ongoing role as Kevin Pearson on This Is Us shows the range he is able to deliver.

Jonathan Archer is one of the first envoys that Starfleet sends out into the galaxy and as such, must be a commanding yet affable character. Hartley has this down to a T. His imposing on-screen presence is offset by his ability to turn on a dime from joking to serious in any scene. The captain's chair and jumpsuit-uniform would look damn well on him - CBS, please do this!
