Castlevania Season 2: 5 Reasons To Be Excited
4. Wallachia
Often times, the setting not only aids a narrative, but guides it. The Country of Wallachia played a huge role in shaping the first season and we can expect more of its influence on the show's sophomore season.
Wallachia took on a personality of its' own. The country was painted vividly as haunted, destitute and looking for answers as their land was under siege by an army from Hell.
The attack from Dracula and other dark forces made the country and its citizens vulnerable to religious zealotry. The most egregious acts (at least the ones not committed by Dracula) were the work of supposed holy men, who wanted only to pervert biblical teachings in order to expand their reach. In this, Dracula's attack only empowered the forces that killed his beloved wife.
The show offered a timeless lesson of not abandoning decency because of fear and panic. It also demonstrated the evil normal people are capable of when they give into these impulses and a mob mentality. The Wallachian landscape is largely responsible for the potency of these messages.
A land that clearly has plenty of history and demons, Wallachia is an environment rich with story and possibilities. Further exploration of the country will be fun.
