Castlevania Season 2 Review: 7 Ups And 2 Downs
2. Up: The New Villains
Many of the new characters in Season 2 got to shine and got their stories fleshed out well, with some getting some absolutely intriguing setups for the already announced season 3, and most of whom got interesting backstory communicated effectively in short but memorable flashbacks.
Carmilla's ambition is encapsulated beautifully when she's shown to have murdered her last master. Hector's softheartedness in youth mirrors that of his older self and his affinity for animals, whereas Isaac's youth shows his loving nature warped into a violent one, when his love was abused by a father figure.
The reveal that the last battle the story had been leading up to wasn't even the last episode was surprising to many, but the last episode did well to set up what was to come, with Carmilla and Isaac both looking to amass an army, and with Hector unwillingly made a pawn to future plans of domination.
With two major villains, both powerful and vicious in their own rights, rising to power at the end of this season to fill the power vacuum left by Dracula, there's sure to be much more to be excited for seasons to come.
