Community: 10 Best Concept Episodes

Community did a fair few Halloween episodes, and they often went high concept with them. However, Epidemiology, which follows a zombie-esque storyline, is the clear standout.

After the Dean buys some cheap meat for the Halloween party (which turns out to be a biohazard), the guests start exhibiting flu-like symptoms and turning into zombies. It’s an episode full of chaos that still manages to find moments for the characters to shine - Chang and Shirley hooking up being a surprising highlight.

Abed & Troy falling out then patching things up over their costume is fantastic too. Initially they go as Alien & Ripley, before Troy decides he wants a less immature costume to attract the ladies. Eventually he goes back to Ripley, although that doesn’t save him from the zombies in the end.

Rich the Doctor gets in on the act too, first treating the infected, then (along with Britta) falsely believing himself to be special because the zombie bite didn’t infect him. In fact, it just had a delayed reaction and both he and Britta end up turning. The ending is a little deus ex machina, but if that allowed them to go wild on the rest of the episode, it’s worth it.
