Community: 10 Best Standalone Episodes

9. Comparative Religion

You would think the claymation Christmas special would take the place over this one, and while that episode is great, Comparative Religion is equally as fantastic.

After a confrontation with a bully who picked on Abed, Jeff finds himself staring down his first fight. This upsets professional guilt tripper Shirley who considers it an offence against her and Jesus to be fighting on Christmas (10 December), resulting in her giving him the choice between fighting or coming to her Christmas (10 December) party.

While the episode does have some hilarious moments, like Troy's Forest Whitaker impersonation and him and Pierce teaming up to teach Jeff how to fight, where the episode really shines is in its heart. Seeing the study group all come together at the end to fight the bully and his goons is the first time in the series where they felt like a family rather than just a bunch of friends. It's a truly special moment that will having you laughing out loud while at the same time smiling on the inside.

Comparative Religion lays down the foundation for on of TV's greatest found families, and it's exactly for that reason why it's one of the best.
