Community: 10 Reasons Why Season 5 Is MASSIVELY Underrated

9. The New Regular Characters Are Great

The exit of of Pierce and Troy left some spots to be filled, and it was nice to see the show didn't just fill those spaces with dud roles.

The return of Professor Duncan (John Oliver) was very welcome. Not only did John's British witticism add some much needed dry humor, but his comedic timing seemed to improve in time since the last time fans saw him in season two.

But the real ace of season five was the new arrival of the deadpan, darkly comedic criminology teacher Buzz Hickey (Jonathan Banks), who is channeling all his rage as Mike from Breaking Bad, into a man fed up with Greendale's shtick. His morally flexible values (won't punch an elf in the heart if there are women present) and adorable pass-time of drawing a cartoon duck made him just as unique among the current veteran cast.

It's fun to see a show evolve and change, and throwing in new characters so late in the game proved that Dan Harmon and the other writers hadn't lost their creative edge. Even though Buzz was present for just the one season, he did make an impact as a series regular.

I overthink a lot of things. Will talk about pretty much anything for a great length of time. I'm obsessed with General Slocum from the 2002 Spider-Man film. I have questions that were never answered in that entire trilogy!
