Community Movie - Everything We Know So Far

One of the biggest questions regarding a hypothetical Community movie is the involvement of Donald Glover. The actor, who played Troy Barnes, left the show during its fifth season to work on his own TV Comedy, Atlanta, and his career as rapper Childish Gambino.

Glover's gambit paid off. Atlanta was a big hit, winning him two Emmys and a Golden Globe, and Childish Gambino is now a household name.

Glover has come a long way since Community, even skipping out on Vulture's reunion, but would he ever come back? Troy was such a key part of the show's success, it would feel off leaving him out of the movie. That said, Glover's writing and music are far edgier than Troy, a character who captured audiences' hearts with his innocence, and returning to that may hurt Gambino's image.

In that same ET web-interview, McHale says of Glover:

"It's going to be hard to get ahold of Donald...Obviously, Donald became--I mean, I think people on Mercury know who he is. I know that he's the busiest person I know."

While McHale isn't too optimistic about his former cast member returning, the fact that he brings him up implies that Troy has some part in Harmon's plan for the movie. Harmon singles Glover out by name (Jonathan Banks' name) in the Vulture special, all but confirming his plot for the movie has something to do with Troy. The show went on for a season and a half without him, so if Glover doesn't come back, it could still work. However, he has spoke fondly of his time on the show, and if Glover wanted him to, Troy could make his long awaited return in the movie.
