6. Pierce's Mom's Farewell CD

YahooYahooDeath is a part of life, but that doesn't make it any easier to deal with. When old lady Hawthorne passed away in the garage, Pierce dealt with the loss the only way he could; by embracing his faith, which just so happened to be a religion that believes your soul becomes a vapour and can be stored in a lava lamp. Jeff, having a crisis of faith of his own, decided that he was going to do everything in his power to shatter Pierce's faith and make him realise that what he thought was his mother was just a toy you can buy at Spencer's Gifts. During the drive to the coroner's office (where Jeff had confirmed that Pierce's mother's body was being kept instead of inside a lava lamp) Pierce stumbled upon a CD his mother had recorded for him, where she basically lays out the facts: She's not a soul vapour, she's not inside the energon pod he was carrying around, she is dead and gone. But, he shouldn't be sad, because death is necessary, and that she loves him. It was a nice sentiment, bookended with some sick rap beats that Troy eloquently called "Gangsta." The real touching moment though came when Pierce decided that she only said those things because she was going senile, and threw the CD out the window. His display of faith in something ridiculous moved Jeff to call off his plans and take Pierce and Troy to get ice cream instead. Finality is a part of everything, but enjoying life while you can makes the end seem farther away. Key Line: "Well, that proves one thing: That woman was really losing her marbles toward the end." -Pierce Hawthorne
