3. Six Candles
YahooWe've explored how nobody understands Abed. Likewise, Abed doesn't really understand anyone else, at least when it comes to emotions and how they react to them. So watching him deal with his parent's divorce and mother's abandonment was sad enough, but how he did it? Well that was just a gut-punch. Having enraged his father to the point where he refused to pay for film classes, Britta valiantly takes up the charge of providing for Abed, a move that ended up becoming very costly. Reaching her patience limit on Abed, Britta finally snapped and stormed out on him, while Jeff informed Abed that the wrong person just left. Little did they know that they were playing the roles of Abed's parents, and this was just a reenactment of what had happened to Abed when he was a child. You'd be forgiven if you didn't feel anything besides confusion while watching the short film, but when the camera pans over to Abed's father - in tears - if you don't get a lump in your throat you better check your pulse. Having realised that film was a way for his son to actually express himself, Abed's father relents and agrees to once again support his son. For a guy that has to practice smiling, Abed knows exactly how to punch you square in the heart.
