Constantine: 17 Easter Eggs And References You Need To See

14. The Fate Of Astra

The ultimate fate of Astra in the TV show is unknown. In the Constantine pilot the eponymous anti-hero is taunted by the demon Furcifer, who first mimics his own form and then presents a doppelgänger of Astra begging to be set free. Thankfully John snaps out of it before he can do anything too rash, but it's clear that his angst over the young girl's loss into the fires of Hades is going to be weighing heavily on him for a while still. The comics are a little darker with Astra's origins but, thankfully, a little more cheerful about her eventual fate. The reason she got possessed in the first place was because of her sexually abusive father €“ the young girl thought that, with the power of a demon, she'd finally get her own back. As it happens she did, with bloody aplomb, but then it all went a bit pear shaped. That's when the failed binding thing happened and she got dragged down to Hell along with the demon. Almost a hundred issues later, however, John succeeds in freeing both Astra's and a load of other kids's souls, which swiftly float up to Heaven. Aw.
