The CW's Arrowverse crossover is undoubtedly one of the most highly-anticipated annual events of the TV calendar. Bringing together most - if not all - of the network's Arrowverse shows, it features each one's respective hero(es) teaming up to take on some major threat that no one entity can overcome and it never fails to supply us with DC Comics goodness. However, this season's installment was something else entirely.

Crisis On Infinite Earths is an event that has been over five years in the making, with the-powers-that-be over at The Flash dropping hints of the impending Crisis as far back as the pilot episode. And now, five years later, that show reunited with Arrow, Supergirl, DC's Legends of Tomorrow and newcomer Batwoman in what was undoubtedly the most ambitious crossover event in TV history.

Due to this, The CW went bigger and bolder than ever before, planting nods to not just Arrowverse properties but classic properties from the wider DC Universe all over the place. With that in mind, there were a ton of references woven into into it, paying tribute to some of the best DC films, TV shows and comic books of all-time throughout the five-episode special.

The Crisis' prologue took us on an ever-so-brief trip throughout the multiverse in order to give us an idea of just how many earths there were. The first of them came in the form of a reference to Tim Burton's classic 1989 film, Batman, as Earth-89 introduced itself with the establishing shot of Gotham City from the aforementioned film.

It was then accompanied by Danny Elfman's instantly recognisable score and even featured a cameo from Robert Wuhl who portrayed the intrepid reporter Alexander Knox in the film.

No better way to start the most iconic superhero crossover of all time than with a reference to one of the most iconic superhero movies of all time, right?
