The Monitor's long-standing "The Flash must die" prophecy came to fruition in 'Crisis On Infinite Earths, Part Three', but not in the way that many expected it to. Yes, just like we had been told by that Central City Citizen newspaper headline, The Flash did indeed vanish in his attempts to stop the Crisis, but it wasn't the Earth-1 version.

Instead, Earth-90's Scarlet Speedster stepped up to the plate, temporarily absorbing his younger counterpart's speed so that he could run for a little longer on that cosmic treadmill. However, as he did so, he thought about the love of his life Dr. Tina McGee - a moment we all saw thanks to a touching flashback to the '90s TV series - just before he disappeared before our eyes.

The Flash vanished in the Crisis but, as we all stared at the iconic lightning bolt emblem that remained, we couldn't help but applaud knowing that the veteran speedster's sacrifice saved billions of lives.
