5. Ms. Marvel (Kamala Khan)

While there are a few different incarnations of Marvel's eponymous heroine, it's the latest, Kamala Khan, who arguably offers the most dramatic possibilities. A Pakistani-American teen living in New Jersey, she's a fan of the MCU herself: after discovering her superpowers, she took the Ms. Marvel name from her idol, Carol Danvers. As well as being a recent addition to The Avengers €” she joined the team in the aftermath of Secret Wars €” Kamala would allow Marvel the chance to look at themes it might never otherwise get a chance to explore: race, religion, identity. She's a Muslim superhero post-9/11, as well as a shape-shifting, Terrigen-activated Inhuman, S.H.I.E.L.D. fans. Furthermore, Kamala is also a reluctant hero, someone who, more than just saving the world on a weekly basis, has to deal with real, relatable problems, like a father who's worried about her studies.
