The man who taught the young Matt Murdock how to hone his abilities and to overcome his fear, Stick's relationship with his pupil was never an easy one. At times brutally unforgiving, and at others subtly affectionate, the martial-artist was often hard-handed in his approach to teaching - leaving Matt with bruises both physical and emotional. Quite simply, Stick was the father figure Matt strived for but could never have, and the amiable relationship between the two shattered irreparably when the blind mentor rejected a memento that Matt had made as a gift for him. In many ways Stick was Murdock's gateway into a whole new world, and his blatant rejection of the orphan he'd sworn to train most certainly earns its spot of being one of the most shocking moments of the series - especially when it's revealed that Matt's been holding onto it years later.
