Daredevil: 10 Reasons Jon Bernthal Is Perfect For The Punisher
4. He Has Experience Of Comic Book Adaptations
It was The Walking Dead that rocketed Jon Bernthal into the public consciousness, and it's The Walking Dead that made publishers realise that TV was a much a viable platform for comic book adaptations as movies. The show is based on Robert Kirkman and Charlie Adlard's long-running comic series, which it only just rivals in popularity. The Walking Dead also proved you don't have to be 100% faithful to the source material to be a success. Whilst the series mostly follows the lead of the comics, there have been some noticeable changes in terms of plot beats and character deaths Jon Bernthal in particularly benefited from Shane's life expectancy being slightly extended. He also benefited from making the character more interesting than he is on the page, with Shane in the comics being a jealous ass who's (SPOILER) offed by the end of the first collected volume. The Punisher is a character who is often equally poorly served by his comic book iteration knowing Bernthal has a history of fixing that is reassuring.
