Daredevil Season 2: 10 Reasons This Is The Definitive Punisher

8. Hero Or Villain?

When we first see the Punisher in action, he enters a hospital with a shotgun and goes about hunting down his target in an eerily single-minded way. He blasts away at the fleeing gangster as innocent people, including Karen Page, trying to get out of his line of fire. He seems more like a Terminator than a man and it makes us ask the question; is this guy really a hero?

That’s the fine line the Punisher walks throughout the season. Yes, he’s taking aim and some truly bad people, but the way he does it is less Batman and more Michael Myers. Hell, in the very first episode he shoots Daredevil in the head!

But that’s always been an interesting aspect of the character that has not really been explored on screen. There’s moments when we cheer for him, like when he gave that pervert pawn shop owner what he had coming. Then there’s times where his actions leave a bad taste in your mouth, like executing the unarmed Grotto.

Those mixed feelings he gives us make the Punisher more interesting than the other heroes who take the law into their own hands. Is he giving the villains what they deserve or is he really no better than the ones he's punishing?
