Daredevil Season 2: 10 Reasons This Is The Definitive Punisher
6. His Actions Have Consequences
In the other versions of the Punisher, we’ve seen him gun his way through countless baddies before killing the main villain then heading off into the sunset to find the next city that needs cleaning up. What we don’t see is the aftermath to all that violence.
This version, however, seems more concerned with showing the consequences of revenge. In short; violence begets violence.
While the Punisher was successful in wiping out the entirety of three separate criminal organizations within Hell’s Kitchen, that predictably is not where everything ends. Rather than bringing an end to crime, the Punisher’s actions bring a more extreme breed of crime. Before long, the retaliation for the Punisher killings begin to spill over into the streets and put innocent people in harm’s way.
And, even more effectively, the show allows us to see what’s on the other side of Frank’s quest for revenge. While in court, we see a grieving young man who wants justice for his father’s murder at the hands of the Punisher. He’s not a gangster or a villain, but rather a son who lost his father. The moment seems to impact Frank and potentially makes him consider who else he’s hurting.
