DC's Legends Of Tomorrow Season 2: 6 Ups And 4 Downs From 'Out Of Time'

3. Accent Inconsistencies

Well, this was certainly a mess.

In the first season of Legends of Tomorrow, there was a moment where Rip Hunter introduced his team to a nifty little gadget that translated people’s dialogue and made whatever was said be heard in English. Whilst that was fine as a way to get over some potential problems as the show travelled across multiple countries and multiple time periods, the season premiere was absolutely erratic in how it handled those speaking in a foreign tongue.

As soon as the episode gets to its first piece of action, we find the team in France amongst French royalty that are all speaking flawless English without any real sense of ‘accent’ to their words. Okay, so that’s how we’re going to do this… well, until we get to Germany that is.

When we’re introduced to Damien Darhk, he’s surrounded by Germans – some of which are speaking English with a horrendous faux German twang, some of which are speaking in German and so have subtitles to accompany their dialogue. Then you have Darhk himself, sometimes speaking in German to these guys, other times speaking in English.

With an issue like this, Legends of Tomorrow just needs to decide on one way of doing it – be that not acknowledging different languages at all, having English spoken with an accent, or just use foreign languages accompanied by subtitles.
