DC Vs Marvel: Who Is Winning The Superhero TV War?

4. Gotham To Constantine: DC's Further Attempts At Standalone Series

Of course, just because the Arrow-verse has expanded and Agents Of SHIELD and Agent Carter all tie neatly until the Marvel Cinematic Universe, that doesn't mean every superhero TV show is connected. DC continue to lead the way on the small screen with more and more of their characters finding their way onto TV. Whether these are as successful remains to be seen; certainly none of the other DC-based shows share the same success as Arrow or The Flash. Constantine is an interesting show. Presumably not dark enough for a network and yet failing to gain wider audiences, it failed after its first year. Gotham on the other hand feels a little Smallville in concept with its focus on the early days of Detective Gordon and every villain Batman ever faced. The only thing missing in this Batman TV show is Batman, making audiences wonder why the show is bothering in the first place. It has gained enough viewers to get a second season but will it really ever get to where it needs to; i,e, the introduction of the Caped Crusader? DC are certainly winning in quantity but against larger connected superhero TV universes, can individual shows survive in isolation?
