DC's THE SPECTRE Made Into TV Series At Fox & WB
Based on Jerry Siegel and Bernard Baily's character, the show will center on an ex-cop who dies and goes to Limbo, where he is forced by the dead to hunt earthly criminals on their behalf.
A drama series based on the DC Comics property, The Spectre, is currently in development at Fox, with Warner Bros producing. The show will center on an ex-cop who dies and goes to Limbo, where he is forced by the dead to hunt earthly criminals on their behalf. Already slightly reminiscent of the long cancelled Brimstone.... Deadline say that Brandon Camp, creator of the short lived sci-fi drama John Doe, will write the adaption. The property was apparently brought to his attention by DC Entertainment's chief creative officer, Geoff Johns. Camp will act as Executive Producer alongside Bill Gerber (Gran Torino) The Spectre was created by co-Superman originator Jerry Siegel and Bernard Baily, and made his first appearance in More Fun Comics #52 in 1940. Originally the spirit of murdered cop Jim Corrigan, refused entry to the afterlife and forced to earth to battle evil, the character has gone through many different iterations over his 70+ year existence, the most enduring of which is as God's Spirit of Vengeance. He famously took on the former Green Lantern Hal Jordan as a host, after Hal went insane under the control of Parallax. This pairing turned The Spectre into the Spirit of Redemption, but ended when Jordan became Green Lantern once again. The Spectre's current host is former Gotham P.D. Detective Crispus Allen. This adaption marks the fifth planned live action T.V. series from D.C., after Blue Beetle, Raven, The Sandman, and Deadman. The Spectre teams Fox and DC for the first time since Human Target.
