DC's Titans Season 1 Premiere: 3 Ups & 2 Downs From Episode 1
1. A Different Take On The Robin Character
Titans has its flaws, but its protagonist isn't one of them. Though the show is technically an ensemble show, it's undoubtedly telling Robin's story - and what a story that is. The former "Bird Boy" left his vigilante days behind him to become detective in Detroit, but when he discovered that there some things the law couldn't stop, he resurrected Robin to get the job done.
His character progression is an interesting one. At the beginning, it seemed like Batman had rubbed off on him a little too much, as he was every bit as moody and broody. However, it turned out that this was the reason that he left Gotham and, after his new partner managed to crack through that frosty exterior, we saw glimpses of the comical Dick Grayson we know and love.
What's most intriguing is that his violent approach as Robin suggests that he is far more vicious than The Dark Knight ever was. Of course, it's understandable that he would stop at nothing to protect innocent people, especially kids, from the crime in this city, and his connection to Raven may be what pulls him back from the darkness.
Right now, the character is all over the place in the best of ways. He's troubled and confused, trying to escape from something he has already become. His backstory has been touched upon a little, and it's going to be really interesting to see how this version of Robin develops going forward.
