Dexter: 10 Most Hated Episodes Of All Time
9. "The Big One" - Season 5, Episode 12
On one side of the coin, "The Big One" was a bittersweet finale, focusing on what Dexter learned from his time with Lumen. On the other, it tossed out the lethal tension between him and Quinn and was quite counterintuitive while doing so.
Viewers expected Quinn to get even closer to Dexter's secret and have an epic encounter. As Dex struggled with Liddy at the end of "Hop A Freighter," Quinn tried to get the corrupt ex-cops' attention and got some blood on his shoes.
The call history with Liddy and the blood led police to consider Quinn a suspect. At this point, Dexter might have as well let his adversary take the hit. Further distancing himself from his initial apathy, Dex felt bad for Deb and sabotaged the blood sample to get her man off the hook.
There were a couple of glaring issues with the finale, though.
First, Quinn saw the photos of Dexter and Lumen. At any point, such details were likely to come up, especially after he pursued 'The Butcher' for so long. Alas, the deets didn't even show up during Dex's public arrest later on.
Second, Quinn was dangerously close to undoing all of Dexter's work. Again, having feelings for Deb was one thing, but this was the guy trying to ruin him. If anything, it felt more creatively convenient for Dex to bury the hatchet with the man who knew too much than anything else.
