Dexter: 10 Most Hated Episodes Of All Time

8. "Nebraska" - Season 6, Episode 7

One of the most intriguing aspects of the character Dexter was that, even though he was a serial killer, it wasn't hard to sympathize with him. Unfortunately, the episode "Nebraska" undoes a lot of the showrunners' hard work from earlier seasons.

Until that point, most episodes of the show gave fans another reason to view Dexter as a tormented anti-hero rather than a straight-up murderer you should probably hate regardless of motive. "Nebraska" might have worked well as some sort of one-off, but as part of the larger arc, it opened the door for fans to despise Dex.

On paper, the concept had tremendous potential. Instead of his father, Dexter's brother Brian now served as 'The Dark Passenger' and provoked our hero to explore his darker side. Comparatively speaking, though, his "darker side" wasn't too much darker than anything viewers saw beforehand.

More often than not, Dex was simply an arrogant, sign-shootin' a**hole, and Brian leaned heavily on his d*ckish ways too much to be appreciated by anyone. His dialogue made you want to punch him right in the kisser every time he spoke. The episode also marked the last significant role of the show's introductory villain before he was "banished," which hardly served him justice. He went from being a force of threat to some jerk shadowing Dexter around in his own madness.
