Dexter: 10 Unresolved Plot Threads The Revival Must Address

2. Does Dexter Deserve To Be Punished?

This was a question the series frequently toyed with, and one that lit up message boards when the show was on the air. While Dexter killed countless people, they were all guilty of heinous crimes, and many would argue they got what they deserved.

Of course, that's not how the world works and it's not up to Dexter to take justice into his own hands. As a result, the question of whether he should be punished for his crimes became a huge talking point over the years, and was one the finale failed to address. Yes, his actions cost him his sister, and yes, he gave up what could have been a fresh new start with his lover and son in South America.

However, he still got to live and, presumably, continue killing. Becoming a lumberjack in Oregon isn't exactly equivalent to being put behind bars, and so it's going to be up to this final season to delve into whether Dexter is finally going to be punished or get away with his crimes for good.

Arguments for both outcomes can be made, but there needs to be a definitive end to his story one way or another.
